Day Twenty-Eight - Artistically Spreading the Pro-Life Message

Today's Reflection
by Alison Simpson

Recently, artists from different backgrounds have been promoting the Pro-Life movement through various art forms. I have seen it especially in music. She Chose Me by country singer RaeLynn has been trending on various social media platforms. It opened up a window for women to share their stories about choosing life. RaeLynn was an unplanned pregnancy and this song is dedicated to her mother who chose life. If RaeLynn’s mother didn’t choose life, then RaeLynn would not have been able to spread hope through this song to people all over the world. Some additional Pro-Life songs are Unplanned by Matthew West, There Goes My Life by Kenny Chesney, Tiny Voice by Lexi Walker, A Mother’s Communion by Danielle Rose, and His Daughter by Molly Kate Kestner. You would be surprised how many are out there! Here’s an inspiring fan video for She Chose Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VLHDQ-sCSM

We can see the Pro-Life movement being praised through the film industry as well. Directors and screenwriters, whether intentional or not, have used their gifts of storytelling to spread the Pro-Life message. Some movies to consider watching and sharing with others are Unplanned, Gimme Shelter, Bella, A Quiet Place, and even some children films like Horton Hears a Who and Meet the Robinsons. Horton Hears a Who talks about protecting tiny people who cannot fight for themselves. Horton says “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” Dr. Suess was onto something when he wrote this popular children’s book. Meet the Robinsons, a Disney film, promotes adoption. It can show individuals that putting a baby up for adoption is always an option for mothers who don’t feel ready or capable. Not only has the Pro-Life message been spread through films and music, but it has also been spread through artwork, books, videos, tv shows, and much more.

How can we promote the Pro-Life movement through our own creations? If you are good at art or crafting, you could start an Etsy shop where you sell and create Pro-Life artwork or rosaries. Then, donate the money you made to crisis pregnancy centers. If you are a musician, you could do covers of Pro-Life songs on YouTube. You could also organize a talent show where you do a fundraiser for a local pregnancy center. If you are maybe considering the film industry as a possible career path, maybe you could make a Pro-Life short film with some friends and family members. If you enjoy writing, start a Pro-Life blog or write a Pro-Life short story. There are so many ways to use your God-given talents for good. Ask God what He wants you to do with your talents. Then, develop your talent for the greater glory of God. Above all, spread the Pro-Life message with love!

A Student's Prayer

Loving Father, I stand before You in the midst of confusion and complexities of life. My future sometimes seems distant and unknown. Give me, O Lord, the vision to see the path You set before me. Grant me the courage to follow Your way, that through the gifts and talents You have given me, I may bring Your life and Your love to others. I ask this through Jesus, Your Son and my Brother.
Amen
